Direct Mail

Direct mail has stood the test of time. Many companies have lowered direct mail expenditures to online forms of marketing. But let's face it, we are bombarded everyday with information overload. We get so much SPAM & email solicitations daily because it is relatively inexpensive & there are no barriers to entry. One person on a computer can easily send out an email broadcast.

Direct mail solicitations have been known to get customer purchases, even 1 year after it was originally sent! Why? Because it is easy to put aside a piece of paper & read it anywhere (ie relaxing in a hot tub). A nice copy seems so legitimate, as opposed to an email that can easily be spoofed. While you cannot take possession of a rented legitimate email prospect list, you are sent a rented direct mail list. List owners use decoy addresses to ensure that their list rental agreement is not abused.

A Merge / Purge is done to de-duplicate (intra dupes) the data & identify multibuyers (ie inter dupes - 1st of a dupe, 2nd of a dupe, 3rd of dupe etc). These multibuyers are people who are found in multiple prospect lists & are there because they bought from multiple companies. You can legitimately use them as many times as they are multibuyers.

It's not suprising then that based on recent Direct Marketing Association (DMA) statistics, Direct Mail still out performs email marketing with regards to conversion rate in all categories (ie prospect & house).
